Sipping on a cold beverage and planning the next blog, my mind kept returning to a Spring day many years ago. I think I was about 9 or 10 and my mom was wearing a beautiful necklace with coral. I fell in love with the marine stone immediately. Red corals grow on rocky sea bottom and that seemed to fit me as I was aiming to be a mermaid. I loved swimming and everything in the sea (everything but sharks that is). And although my dreams have evolved, I still really love coral, the bright colour just screams Spring to me. Indulge in some antique and vintage Dutch pieces, very classic.

It is said that coral gives energy, vigour and hope. The red coral supposedly also imparts courage and helps in overcoming fear and nervousness, so it's a great gemstone for boosting self esteem.

Coral is formed by living organisms. It forms from branching structures created from coral polyps in tropical and subtropical ocean waters. When they die, the hardened skeleton remains and is used as a gemstone. Most coral is white, but nature can create coral in several other colors, including the orange to red.
